(Would look wonderful in the bathroom)Two pieces that I created before I left my last abode. They measure roughly 120x120cm each. Acrylic, ink, oil (hence the staining on the red piece top left), a bit of charcoal here and there too. I can’t decide whether they are a pair or not – the red vs. the blue, or it’s only in my head because they were produced at the same time. (Shout out to Picasso for inspiration (read ‘copy’) re. the face motif – you might have heard of him.)Always loved Miro – remember him as a child – well, remember seeing his images as a child, maybe early childhood holidays to the south of Spain – or maybe something that was related to Spain* – and just being a love with the simplicity of the palette and forms – but there’s something intrinsically difficult in getting that simplicity – years of having a brush in your hand, an extension of the hand, I guess. When mood takes me, I would rush off a whole pad with just black ink and a single brush, maybe 2 pieces would hit the mark – but my mark that is, nowhere near Miro’s. He didn’t break as many boundaries as his more famous compatriot, PP, but I think in their respective works from their latter years, Miro edges it over PP – more to say, more to love, more to give. (*Just had a google and it was a 1982 World Cup poster).Abstract No.11I got a feelin.Abstract No.17 (with figures)Abstract No. 211These are all pieces that have been done over the past few years – I got reams of this kind of stuff – different materials, different styles, different moods etc etc – no direction in these, just more a plethora. 2 pieces made to order for a friend. Acrylic, oil, gesso, ink – anything that came to hand actually. He asked me for something “dark with flashes” having seen another piece I’d done. I rattled these off in a couple of days – there wasn’t much fighting with them, just seemed to come, which is always pleasant. “…dark with flashes” to hang over his bed – not hanging over his bed on the ceiling like some kinky 1970’s style mirror – that would be strange. Though having these in your bedroom anywhere – well each to their own. Roughly 140x170cm each. He still hasn’t seen them in person but liked the pics I sent. And with lockdown back in full swing, it might be a while before getting them varnished and framed. (Badly lit photos and no post, so images appear a touch darker)
